Here is a large Bohemian Garnet pendant locket that converts to a brooch. The pendant has a crystal on the backside that opens with easy but closes securely. The bail is easily removable making this piece versatile for the ever changing woman.

Both pieces are hallmarked with what looks like an eagles head (which would be 18k for the French) but this is a silver piece. It is an all original condition, no stones appear to have been replaced and it has no obvious repairs. This could very well be Georgian because of how it is constructed.

Gemstones: Garnets
Cut: Rose Cuts

Measurements: 59 x 36.6 x 13.2 mm including bail / 41.5 x 36.6 x 13.2 mm as brooch
Metal: sterling silver
Markings: hallmarked on pin and bail (refer to images)
Weight: 17.5 grams
Circa: 1850's
Condition Rating: 8 (all original in very good condition)

Thanks for looking!!!

  • Bracelets and rings get the most wear out of all the styles of jewelry. Make sure that your jewelry is professionally cleaned and your stones checked annually.

For gold rings, the higher the karat weight, the softer the metal will be, and the easier it will scratch. Frequent polishing is unecessary. Polishing your rings removes layers of metals and will thin it out through time.

The same goes with platinum, as it is a malleable and softer metal, yet denser, which makes it last longer.  Platinum is also a white metal naturally and stays white, whereas white gold is yellow that has white alloys giving it a whiter appearance, but will never be as white as platinum.

For high value items, typically of $1,000, it is a good idea to have your pieces insured on your homeowners policy or with a separate insurer like Jewelers Mutual.
